I know this movie takes a lot of heat

But any movie that features a guy jumping from moving car to moving car in a single take is doing something right. That final destruction derby is still jaw dropping...

The whole movie is just a good time. Theres some beautiful stuff in there.

The beginning and end are solid the middle hits a brick wall for me...

It's definitely uneven, but I like it. The final half hour is genuinely thrilling and the closing scene is quite moving.

Everybody goes on about how great the first half is but how sh!t the second is. And I...am the exact opposite.

I don't think that the first half is bad...but the only standout is the Thunderdome fight. What I love about the second half with the kids is that it's different. It does something new and adds more mythos to the series. The world building for this film is actually really damn entertaining and original. The kids little society and their language felt so in keeping with the style of the series. So it's less bloody and more accessible...that doesn't mean its bad. I don't feel like the film was compromised because its vision is so clear. People can call it a watered down Disney Mad Max if they want. It is less violent and grim than the first two. It also has more comedy (my pet peeve) than the others so it is more mainstream. But that's the point. It's not supposed to be as gruesome because the theme of the film is about hope and rebuilding society. This was Millers intent. You don't have to like it, but people act like the film was neutered when it really wasn't.

The kids aren't really played for cutsie laughs either. The only way they can be called "cute" is if you intrinsically find kinds cute or the presence of kids intrinsically childish. The way people go on about it, you'd think the film turns into a nice little domestic comedy when the reality is that kids are portrayed in a very unique way. The reality is they're kind of a cult. They are headstrong survivors and treated as equals by the narrative. How many cute kids films have little kids being swallowed by quicksand or teenage girls being punched in the face by grown men? The only kid that's kinda played for the cute factor is the Pilots son. But thankfully his role is small.

I think people let the more accessible tone blind them to how well thought out and unique this film is.
