Length of time between RW and this

I think it's about twenty years since the end of RW. RW was in 1997; Canberra was nuked the following year, which was also when Walker took off from Sydney (possibly trying to reach the relatively safe north, like Pappagallo's group?) and crashed in the desert near Crack in the Earth. Slake was born very shortly after from one of the survivors, and Savannah in '99, about the time Walker left. Slade and Savannah are nineteen and eighteen, respectively, when Max meets up with them, so it's 2017.

Regarding Max, he was about 24 in MM (1992), and 29 five years later. This would make him 49 in MMBT, though he looks several years younger.

That doesn't tally with the ages of some of the characters though, particularly Savannah. RW has to be before the nukes fall and Walker setting off on the 747, as the landscape in that movie does not look as though it's been through a nuclear winter.

If RW is after the nuclear winter, it can't be long after, probably less than a year. Remember, Max has cans of edible dog food in his car, so some stuff was still being produced up until fairly recently.

I don't know what if any revisionism has gone on since, but when Mad Max 2 was written, they were adamant that they didn't want to do a nuclear war post apocalypse since they had become a bit cliche. They liked the idea that an even worse oil/gas crisis than the OPEC embargo in the mid 1970s could easily push the world over the edge.

Ironic that when they regrouped for the third movie they shrugged and went with post nuclear after all, even in the wake of fucking Threads and The Day After.

The Mad Max wiki said BT is 15 Years after RW.

"What is the life of one bastard boy against a kingdom?" "Everything," said Davos, softly.

reply

14 years since the events of "The Road Warrior".

Mad Max = 1994
The Road Warrior = 2001
Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome = 2015

Aunty started Bartertown in 1999.

Max is 23 in MM1, 30 in MM2 and 44 in MM3.

You're welcomed.

Also, we see the date "1999" written on the cave wall (along with an actual day and month, both of which escape me at the moment) in Beyond Thunderdome as the timestamp for when Captain Walker's group of adults headed off into the desert, the implication being that they'd been there for at least a while prior to this following the jet-crash.

Almost forgot about that - thanks for the reminder!

reply

Yea but what day and month was it?

A good description of the timeline of the original trilogy. Ignore Fury Road that was a sequel/reboot hybrid.
