I saw it when it came out and don't recall anyone clapping.

It was a big deal because road warrior was huge after it hit video. This one was pretty good.

Never saw it in the theatres but I remember watching it on TV having never seen the others, and not being hugely impressed by it. The whole film seemed OTT in its weirdness.

Having rewatched it again now that I'm familiar with the films that came before it, I have a much bigger appreciation of the film and what it does for the series.

I saw the first one at the drive in as a 7 year old kid... The second one I saw at the drive in as a 9 year old kid... And the third one I saw at the cibema as a 13 year old kid. Noone clapped or cheered during the films that I can remember.

I saw The Road Warrior at the drive in. It was great!

I saw Beyond Thunderdome in a regular theater. It was a letdown. It was more like Peter Pan than Mad Max.

reply

LOL it is.

reply

Exactly. It was like a Peter Pan meets Water World without the water.
It is fun to watch but it is weird. Where are the adults? Why are the children stupid, they don't know what a city is or nuclear bomb is.

I saw it in the theaters, and the crowd was clapping and pretty into it!

I saw in a theater in Orlando 29 years ago his week. I don't recall much clapping. I think the middle portion of the film kind of took the audience out of it.

I saw it in the theatre at age 20. Disappointed. Reminded me of Citty Chitty Bang Bang with all those stupid kids!

I also saw Mad Max 2 (its correct original name...I refuse to call it Road Warrior) at a drive in in Australia when it was first released. The film started with a contest to find a name for North American release as MM 79 didn't do well enough financially.
