Savannah and Slake

They're both around 18/19 years old in the movie; how old would they have been when Captain Walker left Crack in the Earth in 1999? Probably not much more than two, I think.

If they were alive at the time of Walker's departure, they must have been extremely young, toddlers at best.

Wait -- did Captain Walker leave alone or did he take the Gang of 20 (all the adults) with him? If that's the case, then who gave birth to everyone younger than Savannah? It looks like the littlest ones can't be much older than 6 or 7, and I don't understand why any adult would abandon their child to go find help.

So whose kids are they?

reply

Yes. This is one of the parts of the plot line that doesn't add up. Who exactly procreated all those kids that looked to be somewhere between 4 and 12? And what happened to them?

I, and some of my friends back when it was new, decided that the kids got the story just a little messed up. Assume the aircraft was mostly full of kids, to evacuate them from a clearly impending war, like this: http://www.defensemedianetwork.com/stories/operation-pied-piper-the-evacuation-of-english-children-during-world-war-ii/ Or, actually, I guess like LOTF (though that was way too small a plane and there was this stupid ejector pod).

So, that would be before the loud noises. For convenience and drama, let's also say that the plane was aloft during the attack, and it didn't crash per se, but crash landed since all cities are busy being on fire. That's why it's basically totally intact.

Quantas 747-400 can hold, with some lap children to round up, say 400. Flight crew and escorts could be as few as 20, but if 20 went for help, assume another 20 adults stayed behind.

Quickly counting, the number of kids varied (way fewer on top of the plane than most in the grotto scenes) but is clearly less than 100 now.

I also assume zero children were born here. I don't care what the George Miller math says, if Thunderdome happens in 2015-2018 then ALL the kids were born there, and it would seem a key thing to mention in their history would be the last of the adults dying semi-recently.

Anyway, I always assumed that this is just what is left. Due to disease, nutrition, accidents, etc, around 2/3 of the kids and all the remaining adults died over time, or maybe at a specific time from some disease or a bad harvest or whatever. Put it way back near the beginning of a 6-7 years ago crash and all the horrible blends together and it's swept under the rug by the surviving kids.

Yes, doesn't match the stated timeline as I said, but within what we are shown in the film, it makes the most sense for me. I'm gonna keep going with that one.

So exactly how old was Savannah when Captain Walker "tumbled" 'er?

Imagine that.
