WHY is the pilot from mm2 not recognised by mm3? It makes no sense.

The helicopter pilot who became the leader of the great northern tribe in mm2 repapers in mm3,he does a ludicrous jump out of a plane and takes max caravan of camels.

not only can he jump from moving planes but max has no idea who he is.

However in one section max recognises him and says YOU.
it makes no sense to have an actor play almost the same part and to be unrecognised from his previous film.
does any one have an explanation to this?

He's meant to be a separate character named Jedediah which is why Max doesn't recognise him, but he's played by the same actor and has the same 'job' (pilot) as the character from MM2 which is why the audience recognises him (if you know what I mean).

They don't know each other. He's not Gyro from Road Warrior. Max just goes "You!" because he recognizes him from earlier when he stole Max's vehicle.

However, we never have an actual chance to see Max and Jebediah interact, becausw they only meet during the movie climax. Could very well be that Gyro and Jebediah are sort of twin brothers and they just happen to run into Max. Could explain Max's "You!" a little bit like "Wait a minute. That face is familiar."

But since Thunderdome takes place years after Road Warrior and Max is kind of insane and tortured by his past he might not fully remember Gyro's face, which is why he doesn't adress Jebediah looking like someone he used to know.
