Why did the kids need to save Master???

I must've missed it but why did Max and the kids need to save Master from Bartertown? I don't think it was ever touched upon.

The way I saw it, the kids fled their home to find Tomorrow-morrowland for themselves after Max rejected them and in doing so they discovered Bartertown instead. When they got there for some reason they decided to take Master away with them????

My guess is Max intended to kidnap Master and use him as a bartering tool to get a vehicle and supplies from Aunty(As they were apparently too low on them to return). Instead they were discovered during the attempt and all hell broke loose. Why they still took Master after that point... I dunno. Thought he could still be of some use to them? Escape insurance? Blatant good-guy-ism? *shrugs*

reply

Master was a mechanical genius and they wanted him to help them escape from Bartertown by restarting the airplane engine. I'm not saying it makes any damn sense, I'm just repeating the stated reasons in the film.

The movie makes no damn sense.

I don't understand this. There was no airplane for them to use to escape Bartertown at that point. They ran into Jedediah by chance and his plane sure didn't need fixing.

If you meant they thought he could repair the jetliner, they didn't have enough water to return to the others, not to mention they had no way to fuel the jet nor a way to get it to take off(It's partially buried in the desert sand and there's no runway or flat land shown in that area either). =P

Master "had the knowing of a lot of things." (From civilization; things such as mechanics and engineering.) Rather than a bartering tool, Max knew that Master's technical skills would be indispensible for building a new life for the uncivilized, uneducated children.

Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.

Because he had the know'n.

I was wondering this too. Then I watch the scene when they arrived the Bartertown again and I have got the answer:

At 01:14:30 Mad Max says:

A little guy with the knowing of a lot of things. Understand?

So... I guess Mad Max thinks that the Master is useful in some way.

Right. On the one hand, Max has a bunch of dumb ignorant idealistic kids on a mission to recreate or rediscover civilization, or "the knowing", but have no idea how to do it.

On the other hand, there is Master, a genius who has already created one post-apocalyptic civilization, only to become enslaved within it; who is known to have a soft spot in his heart for dumb ignorant kids (poor Blaster); and would be pretty grateful for a rescue just about now.

Max figures it's a good match.

Come on, guys, this is not hard. The voice-over epilogue implies Savannah and the kids succeeded in their quest. How do you think they managed without the Master?
