no, to work for Auntie. remember his conversation with the gate keeper, "if you don't have something to trade, you don't have any business in Bartertown". the only thing he had to trade was his 'mad skillz'

To fight Blaster. Aunty is looking for someone good and strong enough to kill Blaster. They cannot just assassinate Blaster because that will anger the people and Master. They needed someone to pick a fight with Blaster and then win against him in a fair combat (Thunderdome).
