Watched the trilogy for the first time, this is my favorite!
So I've watched all 3 Mad Max movies this week for the first time, so I didn't had any nostalgic feelings towards them.
I thought the first was quite boring and was kind of ruined for me by the imdb plot outline ''A vengeful Australian policeman sets out to avenge his partner, his wife and his son whom were murdered by a motorcycle gang in retaliation for the death of their leader.'', which is basically the ending not the plot, resulting in me waiting the entire movie for the 'plot' to kick in. Anyways, it was obviously low budget, in that perspective not bad at all, but I didn't really care for it beyond that.
The second one was a lot better! Loved the vibe, kind of gritty with gore and nudity which I guess was typical for action movies in that time period (they don't really make them like that anymore), it did feel a little dated at times, but still quite fun.
Now then, Beyond Thunderdome. I actually didn't plan on watching this one after having read about it's reputation but decided to put it on anyways. What immediately struck me was the epic scope of the story and visuals, which was absolutely amazing at times! I do see why people dislike it as it takes a drastic turn from the previous movies with a more star wars-like family adventure story, but to be honest I liked this even better, felt like a much more timeless story, especially in contrast with the Road Warrior (probably the main reason I like Thunderdome a little better). Only real downside for me was Tina Turner, I liked the villain in The Road Warrior a lot better but other than that; great story, great action scenes, good music and awesome cinematography; I simply cannot help but liking Beyond Thunderdome the most!
