no matter what he or anyone else thinks of this movie, it probably was best for mel because it showed another side to him and that he could work with kids and women like tina turner and that he had a real likeable hero side to him.

I don’t know about that. I enjoy the movie for the camp, ridiculous spectacle it is, but I think you’d be hard-pressed to argue that this was a better career move than Braveheart. Also, it ended the Max trilogy on a silly note and while I like Tina in it, those kids, cringe-worthy doesn’t even begin to describe them.
i think it showed his charisma and ability to work in more hollywood like projects, which led to the lethal weapons and made him a big star, then led to his second directed movie, braveheart, which was a great career move too, but it may not have been possible if it wasn't for mm3.
shareYeah that’s a fair enough take on it. I guess me growing up in Australia gave me the impression he was already a movie star before Thunderdome, but I suppose you’re right it could have made him a more attractive and bankable blockbuster leading man proposition for Hollywood.
I do think his charisma was already well established in the first two Max films though, along with his excellent work in The Bounty acting alongside all those incredible film legends.
The only thing everybody can agree on, is what his worst career move was.

shareSounds more like a good move for George Miller, it was sort of a cute & cuddly* precursor to Babe and Happy Feet. I really don't think Mel got a whole lot out of being in it.
