Cool. It's on Amazon.co.uk too, but curiously they're not giving a date or taking pre-orders.

I just picked it up today as an independent record store in my area tends to have Criterion releases a week before they're scheduled to be released. I must say, the packaging is some of the best I've ever seen and it's worth the money alone. The special features are great as always as it is a Criterion release.

reply

Agreed. It's one of the best Criterion DVDs I own, and it was a purely random buy. It's a great movie as well, criminally overlooked in so many ways. And it is a complete and total crime that Philip Glass was overlooked by the Academy for his score work on the film. It's an amazing score.

Great films like this don't reach the mass media very often. No Academy Awards or the like. But for those of us who appreciate a film with music, sets, story and acting that all blend together to create such a wonderful film, seems enough of a reward in itself.

one of the best DVD editions ever released, for any movie!

its perfect. What a masterpiece and Criterion did a great job honouring it.

reply

I like to put this one out on the coffee table just for display... hell of a conversation piece.

On the other hand, I keep my Blood Bag edition of Ichi the Killer out of view.

reply

yes, keep Ichi the Killer locked up.

But Mishima Criterion is a gorgeous piece to leave out.
