anyone excited about this? eh? ehhh? c'mon. just a little bit?

reply

I'm very excited, I just wish that Criterion would give us some confirmation. This film is a masterpiece, and it desperately needs a good DVD presentation.

reply

And it needs Roy Scheider's narration restored. I watched the Warner DVD in class last year and was very disappointed to hear his narration replaced (even though his credit remains).

i actually got an email from someone at criterion confirming the release of mishima. i'm super excited now. i also heard from schrader's friend that there's going to be a lot of special features. commentaries, a documentary(i think..) about philip glass, etc. it's going to be a wonderful release. i can't wait!

reply

"Sorry for the delay in response. It is true that we will be
releasing MISHIMA though we don't have a release date set at this
time. Please check back in a few months for more info."

I've got 2 brand new copies of Mishima on DVD, to me that will always and only be the real and original one. Produced in its simplest form, genuine, not fancied up. You can have the forced copy by Criterion, i'll keep my out of print Mishima any and every day!!

reply

oh, i know! who would want a digitally remastered, high-definition copy of a beautiful film?! i mean.. not that colors are important in the film at all...

who wants to see the version of the film with ken ogata's narration? who wants to see bonus footage? bonus footage??? that's just absurd!

i want to be some thick headed douche who takes pride in having original copies of movies(do you have a vhs collection of movies that have long been release on dvd as well?). look at how cool i am with my original copies of dvds. why don't you aspire to collect old film reels too?

i agree, the only 'real' copy of mishima is the version you have... since the copy that criterion is producing isn't tangible. it's all in your mind! they're fooling you into thinking you have a real copy of a movie when it's actually an illusion! IT'S ALL A CONSPIRACY!

reply

Boy, you sure set me straight, I'm all red faced, but of course you can't see that because we're on a computer. Just when you think you have all the answers I changed the questions. Bye for now!!!!!

reply

wait a second. . . what? =P

My question is: why does princessrich need 2 copies of the DVD? And for the record, Criterion discs are just about the simplest and most elegant released in terms of organization and presentation. But those color bars are soooo pretentious. Sheesh.

Does anyone actually know for sure when this is coming out and what features it will have?
