Remaking a low budget, obscure TROMA FILM?!

You know Hollywood has run out of ideas when they start remaking niche films that not many people have even heard about, let alone seen.

"I'm proud of it by all accounts..."

If this was on the 'Mother's Day' board, I'd agree with your statement, but 'The Toxic Avenger'? Who DOESN'T know 'The Toxic Avenger'?! Yeah, its a niche film to an extent, but it's easily one of the more popular cult films, pretty much on par recognition-wise with 'Evil Dead', I'd assume. And that's not even mentioning the hugely successful animated kids show it spawned in the early '90s which, from what I've read of the remake, most of the cues are being taken from. Toxie's pretty well known internationally.

Plus, didn't Hollywood also remake 'Death Race 2000', 'The Hills Have Eyes', 'Last House on the Left', 'Clash of the Titans', 'Assault on Precinct 13', 'Walking Tall', 'Rollerball', 'My Bloody Valentine', 'Black Christmas', 'The Fog', 'House of Wax', 'House on Haunted Hill', 'Thirteen Ghosts', 'The Haunting', 'The Hitcher', 'Prom Night', 'The Stepfather', 'Willard' and are in the process of remaking 'Escape from New York' and 'Piranha'? It seems Hollywood has been capitalizing on remaking "niche" cult horror films for years...

Yes and all of them have sucked and probably will continue to suck far worse than their lower budget source.

Hollywood just ain't got the soul to pull off that indie magic. -_-

'House on Haunted Hill' wasn't bad, though...it at least acknowledged it was a remake and consciously played up its camp aspects.

I wonder if they are going to use the musical version they did off-Broadway .. the show was well received, but unfortunately I never went to see it. I think it might be more fun for them to use that version than to try and redo the orignal script I would think.
