Surprised... it's a decent film

The editing was fairly good.
The performance from the actors was good. Maybe not in a traditional sense, or technically, but it's one of the rare cases where every actor is on the same wave length and they draw a coherent picture of Tromaville. So many memorable characters..!

Low-budget, commercial, campy but this film will outlive many big budget superhero films from the 21st century. Certainly not the case of 'too bad it's good'. It's a good film.

I agree. People don't understand camp I guess. They prefer everything clean cut and polished like those big wig Hollywood productions with the big names...

I actually prefer low budget, hoakey camp films to the bigger ones, they usually tend to be more interesting and unique. Plus, it's made in the kickass 80s, and has all kinds of wacky 80s fashion and music and stuff. Bonus!

When I used to hate this movie (when I was a kid and thought it was disgusting) it seemed that everyone else loved it. Now that I like it, everyone's trashing it. I'm totally cursed that way. The moment I start liking something, the rest of the world hates it.

***For your information, everyone knows monsters prefer blondes.***

It's more along the lines that people born after the 70s (and after the video market killed theatrical releases for independent films) have been conditioned into accepting what is polished and big-budget as "good", and what is not polished as "crap". Today, most of the general public will completely disregard a film as "entertainment" if, say, the opening scene isn't lit well or the acting isn't that good. We're a shallow moviegoing audience...we prefer Hollywood *products* rather than *movies*.

'The Toxic Avenger' may not be excellent in terms of technical quality, acting or taste, but it's certainly original, it's got it's own unique aesthetic and atmosphere, and, most importantly, it's entertaining...to me, that's what makes a good film. Troma has a lot of genuinely good low-budget comedies in their collection (among a lot of bad ones, provided)...I'm just upset that most people (including Troma fans) are so quick to label their entire library as "bad films".

I watched it on G4 last night - a cable television channel. I knew nothing previously about this film, and it ended up drawing my attention.

It is a good film in the sense that it accomplishes what it sets out to be........a funny, campy, horror spoof.

If people actually take the film seriously or say it's "so bad it's good"...........they obviously didn't get it.

There's some genuinely funny, funny things in this movie. This is a little throw away bit, but the scene when Toxie just pops out of the bushes to help an old lady across the road always makes me chuckle. He just pops up like "A PERSON WHO NEEDS ME!"
