Toxie dvd's to Buy

There are two REGION 1 dvd releases of the first TOXIC AVENGER - a 1 disc uncut release in 1998, which is the most common, and a second 2 disc "Golden Edition" which featured a matted widescreen transfer of the film from an unrated lazerdisc. If you buy either of the boxsets THE TOX BOX or the COMPLETE TOXIC AVENGER, the 1998 is the disc you receive. The Golden Edition is only available seperately. Both transfers have differenrt pluses and minuses, but my recommendation has to go to the 1998 disc. I own both though.

There are two REGION 1 discs of The Toxic Avenger Part II. When the first disc was released in 1998, the film was advertised as the "Unrated Director's Cut", but even Kaufman on the audio commentary admits this is not true. For the "TOX BOX" boxset, the Toxie 2 disc is modified to have the uncut version of the film with a newer Lloyd Kaufman commentary. The menus and extras, other than the commentary, remained the same. This, true, uncut version is ONLY available in the TOX BOX boxset. The single disc sold on places like Amazon is the 1998 disc, and the disc inside "The Complete Toxic Avenger" is also the 1998 version.

The Toxic Avenger Part III has only had one release that is the same in both boxsets and available seperately. Totally uncut version.

Citizen Toxie Part IV has had two releases. Both came out in the early 2000s, an R-rated cut and an Unrated Cut. The Unrated DVD (two disc) is the most common. It is available seperately but NOT in the Tox Box collection, only the Complete Toxic Avenger carries it.

The Tox Box also contained a "movie" of TOXIC CRUSADERS, edited from the first three episodes of the TV series. The Complete Toxic Avenger has the complete series on two discs.

Overall, the COMPLETE TOXIC AVENGER is the better buy, but TOXIC AVENGER PART II is ONLY barable with the full gore intact, and if you wanna see it at all I have to recommend THE TOX BOX too.
