yea i like this movie i see nothing wrong with i think lea thompson and tim robbins did great and i dont understand why its so bad well there was the part with the duck boobs scene but the whole movie its self is great the visual effects are great acting is ok so i give this movie 10/10
I'm NOT sorry; I happen to love this film if only for the details created for the film. I know it was a flop (and can see some reasons - to me - why, but I can't help loving Howard the Duck.
If you like this movie, you really don't know what good is. The special effects are draining and give you a headache, the whole plot takes forever, and I didn't like the scene where Howard is talking to that angry black woman. Why doesn't Jesse Jackson say anything about that negative stereotype? Probably because he never saw it.
I enjoyed this movie for what it was. It just a fun movie to watch and not meant to be taken seriously. If the people would make up their own minds about movies and such and not believe sites that put movies like this on their worst list just because they said so, I would feel better.
The effects were top drawer for the time, Phil Tippett and co. did an excellent job on the stop-motion, and Howard was convincingly put together. Why is the woman being black relevant? Is Jesse Jackson supposed to issue a statement every time a black person in a movie displays temperament?
I liked it, but there is no way in hell it deserves 10/10. Have you seen La Dolce Vita, Citizen Kane, Aguirre the Wrath of God, Pulp Fiction,mChungking Express? Is Howard the Duck really on the same level as those?

In all fairness, neither do any of those films. HTD is a goofball, cult classic that you probably only like if you're around 35 years old, but the movies you just spit out are literally carbon copy wannabe film buff "10s".
I did like how you tried to go off the beaten path with two hugely popular "I think I'm clever films" in WOG and LDV though.

I used the example of La Dolce Vita, not because it was the best Fellini film, but because it isn't very obscure and would be a recognizable title and a good example of movies as art. I do really think Wrath of God is a really incredible viewing experience, and it isn't inaccessible. I'm not trying to impress people with the movies I listed I was making the point that when cinema is capable of incredible things, Howard the Duck doesn't really represent the pinnacle of film as an art form or even a medium of entertainment. I am a young adult, not 35 but I watched Howard the Duck and thought it got an unjust amount of hate and was actually a mildly entertaining albeit campy movie.
I saw it for the first time yesterday. I thought it was hilarious! The movie clearly doesn't take itself serious in the first place, and it shows self awareness of the cheese factor in all the self-deprecating humor and wit throughout. Kinda similar to Pee Wee's Big Adventure.
Jeffrey Jones had me dying as he changed into the Overlord at the diner. Lea and Howard's reactions at the table were hilarious, as was the ensuing quips and fights with the redneck patrons.
It is what it is. Not really for kids. But not nearly deserving of the lambasting it receives as an adult film either. It's an oddity, but definitely an interesting and fun ride with a funny and memorable character.
