I can't believe no one has pointed this out:


I'm talking about what has to be the dumbest moment of the movie: When PHIL says "It's a bird. It's a plane. No, it's a duck!". Ummm... ducks ARE birds. No wonder you're a lab assistant and not a scientist.

Well...Tim Robbins is hardly the brightest bulb out there. In the words of the late Great Buford T Justice "If he can dress himself and wipe himself....we're not proud..we're amazed!"

in some terminology, such as legal, a duck is 'fowl' rather than a bird - in terms of biological classification, a duck is a member of 'bird' family - i agree with that.

I'd also argue that in general spoken english, a duck would not often be identified as a bird, more often a duck
