why not a special edition?

With Howard the Duck, you can't really hurt it. There is no sacrilege in releasing a changed version.

How about Ted's Seth Macfarlane going through all of Howard's dialogue and recording substituting something genuinely funny and well written?

Obviously the condom scene could remain, but the movie as is just plays like a watered-down whining instead of satirical commentary.

And imagine how much better it might have been if Frank Price then president of Universal hadn't insisted on monsters because Ghostbusters had started a trend. Arbitrary changes ordered by suits might suggest that the movie which bombed in 1986 is due for some tampering. Not a remake per say, because Howard the Duck as a brand was ruined by the muddled movie itself. But if it was given to Seth and his team the possibilities would be endless. Well, not endless, but at least they would exist.
