Is This worth seeing?

This movie and Hannibal Rising are the only two adaptations of the novels that I haven't seen (I will never watch Hannibal Rising). I love Silence of the Lambs, I enjoy Red Dragon quite a lot, and even though Hannibal was trash I saw it in theaters

I would consider myself a big fan of both Manns. That is, Thomas Mann and his novels and Michael Mann and his movies, so it would seem like a no-brainer for me to watch this

But something has kept me from watching this. Edward Norton IS Will Graham to me and Anthony Hopkins IS Hannibal. I like Ralph Fiennes but I wouldn't mind seeing a different interpretation of Francis Dolarhyde

So, is Manhunter significantly better than Red Dragon? Or at least different enough to make it worth checking out?

Yes, its amazing!

Thanks :) what's your favorite part? And if you've seen Red Dragon what do you think Manhunter did better?

The film, despite being a bit 80´s is pure unadulterated Michael Mann.

I saw Manhunter before Red Dragon and really enjoyed it. It is interesting to see the characters portrayed by different people.

I personally prefer Manhunter. It has a whole lot more style. Visually it's so much more compelling. It doesn't feel forced. It has a personality. The character of Will is much more intense and you can feel the stress he's under. The reveal is way more interesting.

I actually like Red Dragon and some of the things about it are great (more time with Dolarhyde especially), but if I had both of them in my hand I'd put Manhunter in the DVD player 9 out of 10 times.

Ok thank you, this is enough to convince me :)
