About the prostitute scene
I take it this is the scene with the car. I never could figure out what was supposed to be funny about a man having sex with a prostitute until she was exhausted, then starting up again. I found the scene to be rather horrific, and might just be me, it seemed like a cruel rape joke. Yes she's being paid, but I never understood why it was amusing that she was being tortured like that.
The reason I bring this up, is I was thinking about how prevalent rape humor can be in some circles these days, and wondering if this was an early form of that. Sure maybe it's that I watched when I was too young to get what sex was, it's kind of ironic my dad would watch some pretty risqué comedies with me when I was a kid, then got all overprotective about me watching certain things when I was older. It's not as weird as it sounds, most adult jokes just went completely over my head including this one at the time.
I just don't see what the purpose of this scene being in the film is. Maybe it's dark humor, or squick humor. Just was one of those things I still recall as being disturbing.
According to TV Tropes this was the purpose of the scene, Chief Benton has wild sex with a prostitute at night in his car while Earl Mott is filming both of them in an attempt to prove Sam Stone murdered his wife. So it's blackmail, okay I can see why that would be an important plot point. Still seemed as I said needlessly disturbing.
