Questions from my 8th viewing

Right after the first call to Sam, there's an overhead shot of Sam's house with a TV announcer narrating that Sam Stone's wife was kidnapped. Also, after Sam is released, Sam is on TV as he is leaving the jail. In both instances, the announcer's voice sounds like the late Phil Hartman. Imdb lists three people as newscasters, but there are three on-camera newscasters (and one off-camera) that also appear in the film.

Some other personal observations... Carol tells Earl to make a copy of the tape while at Earl's house, yet they have to go to an appliance store to watch the tape. "Hey, that's my husband"

When Ken goes off to work for the first time, Sandy is in a waitress uniform with a name tag. They both can't go to work and leave Barbara there.

The orange sculpture at the "Hope Street Plaza" looks a lot like the orange sculpture in Chicago seen in Ferris Bueller. They both were done by the same person and (in my opinion) are a waste of money.

In the camera shot where the bumper of the car goes below the water's surface, we're watching a film that is running in reverse. Water is washing -UP- over the trunk and the bubbles are going down.

When the police caravan is going past LAX, they are heading south. Ken is heading south when he turns onto Santa Monica Pier. However, Santa Monica Pier is north of LAX.

We assume Earl doesn't have a VCR at his trailer. Carol thinks Sam is a murderer at this point and she is too scared to go back to her own house.

Why in the world they dubbed in "Hey, that's my husband" is beyond me.
The quote is what makes the scene hillarious. You have to realize that the quote is being made by a customer in the store who sees her husband on TV. The quote is not dubbed ON the video tape.

>> What I wonder about the veiwing in the appliance store is how is one vcr hooked up to ALL those TVs at the same time!?

It's a movie, it doesn't have to obey the laws of logic, it just has to be funny.

Also the "Dog's a little diabetic" thing...Sam is seen uncorking champagne all over the place in the bathroom. When does it hit the carpet in the living room?? Offscreen?

Agreed about the stretch (but reality of the film) that Morris' character is too scared to return home to make a copy. Sake of laughs, as well.

He opens it in the bathroom, but then he dances all over the house with a glass in one hand and the bottle in the other.

You still see that today in TV stores where several sets are hooked up to the same feed. It's not difficult to do.

I also thought that the voice over on the newscast was Phil Hartman.

The car sinking in the water looked weird. Sped up just a tad?
