How long was she kidnapped for?

First off, I love this movie. I noticed AMC played it this past weekend but I couldn't stand to watch it butchered by their censors...

Anyway, my question is how long Barbara was kidnapped for? It seems like it would be a week or so, given the pacing of the story, maybe two weeks.. But she lost 20 pounds, which despite what weight loss hucksters would have to believe is like a 8-10 week process... maybe 6 on a crash diet, but not a week in any case.

Is there any justification this is a 6-8 week story?

Well, it wasn't just the diet. It was, I believe, the fact that she was pretty much spending all day, every day, exercising.

I think that the story took place over a two-week period.

People lose weight at different rates. I remember once, after a jaw operation, I was on a liquid only diet. I lost about fifteen pounds in the first week, or so.

Very true and it obviously depends on how out of shape you are. They portray her as being pretty out of shape, so over a 2 week period, going on a crash diet, exercising non-stop, yeah you could lose maybe 15-20 pds in 2 weeks..

Yeah, I had the flu once and lost 10lbs in one week....just by lying in bed (and running to the bathroom). I do not recommend this form of dieting.
