This episode,
Season 3, Episode 9, In the Forests of the Night (19900721/21 Jul. 1990),
episode 53 of 55, seems out of order,
being itself chronologically prior to what IMDb lists as the "previous" episode,
Season 3, Episode 8, Invictus (19900124/24 Jan. 1990), episode 52 of 55
where Vincent escapes and rescues his son and Diana kills Gabriel,
because Gabriel is still alive and Vincent's baby, named Jacob in Invictus, is still missing.
It's also before the "next" episode,
Season 3, Episode 10, The Reckoning (19900728/28 Jul. 1990),
where Vincent and Diana talk about Gabriel being dead and have Vincent's son's naming ceremony.

When the show was cancelled by CBS in Season 3, they only had a set number of weeks they were going to be left on the air before another show was put in B&B's place.

So they skipped In the Forests of the Night on purpose so they could air the other 2 episodes following and finish up the Gabriel arc to satisfy fans of the show.

Later that Summer, they still had 2 unaired episodes to air that were filmed after Invictus, and they still hadn't aired In the Forests of the Night, so they aired them all in a row over 3 weeks time.
