When it was originally on, CBS skipped an episode (In the Forests of the Night) in order to conclude the whole Gabriel 'arc' before the show was pulled from the schedule.
That episode, along with the two that followed the Gabriel arc (the last two episodes filmed) aired later that Summer in 1990.

I was puzzled about this when I watched the episodes. It's a shame that this episode was included in the final series.
If it would have been screened in the middle of the Gabriel arc, then it would have detracted from the story. Yet screening the episode afterwards, makes it confusing especially as when it was screened it jsut got confusing as the original post points out
