They felt bad for not making her the star of the show, so they made her Lady Liberty so she would be on stage in every scene.

It was too little too late, she quit the play and almost let all of her classmates down because she wasn't the center of attention. She was being a spoiled brat bitch.

Yeah, it was the writers' decision to give him stage fright.
Nobody in this show ever learns that you can't get what you want and Michelle especially has almost never had to give something up without being rewarded.
