Michelle should have been belted

Selfish brat shoved the wedding cake into her mouth and prevented anyone else from having any. If I were her father she would not have been able to sit down for a month.

reply

I always had a fantasy that one day Michelle would get spoiled and then Danny would pull out the belt and smack her a few times lol

reply

That would have been awesome, I would have loved to see that. What would have been funny was when Stephanie drove the car through the kitchen if she hit Michelle

reply

What else

reply

The grown-ups let her eat all the cake samples. So how did you expect a four-year-old to know that she wasn't supposed to do it?

Besides, I don't believe that kids should ever be belted anyway.

reply

Unfortunately, her dad was a total wimp, and "didn't want to destroy her mind with any real corporal punishment." Her uncles were no better in this respect. She had all three wrapped around her finger because she was the cute, youngest little girl in the house. She got away with a lot of things my parents would have never allowed. The one time she was punished, she just sat in a rocking chair in her room, staring at the wall. That only works if the kid is semi-obedient. Some kids would just escape the chair in defiance.

reply

She was punished several times after that. Like for accidentally flying to New Zealand (not her fault) and following DJ to the movies (despite the fact that she would have been home alone otherwise).

reply

Some kids would just enjoy rocking back and forth.

reply

This era was pretty much the beginning of the end when it came to raising children to be decent human beings. Parents were told that punishing a child would "damage them for life" even though it had been done for years with no damage. Every child was getting a trophy or ribbon just for showing up. Sometimes they only had to show up the day to get the ribbon, not even for the activity itself. And don't forget they had to "express themselves" even if it meant being rude.

Well, abuse has to count as damage. And I feel that belting a child is abuse.

reply

If Michelle should've been belted, then the following characters should be as well.

1) Angelica Pickes

2) DW from Arthur

3) Regina Goerge

4) Mertle from Lilo and Stitch

5) Megan from Drake and Josh

6) Jesse (who was a jerk a few times).

7) That bratty little boy from Michelle class that pinched her over an animal cracker.

8) Rusty

9) Veruca Salt

10) Helga's parents from Hey Arnold (since they neglect her a lot).

reply

Don't know much about 2-5 or 10, but Angelica Pickles was funny, Michelle was just a brat who needed a good beating.

reply

Nah, beating is not the answer to anything.

reply

Spare the rod and spoil the child, that's what I say.

reply

Seriously, why? Exactly how is beating a smaller and physically weaker human being to enforce your will a good thing?

reply

It’s not to enforce your will it’s to teach her right from wrong, she acted like a pig in that scene and should have known better, instead the adults laughed as it if was the cutest thing ever, is that seriously how you would react if your daughter did what Michelle did?

reply

Surely you realize that you can teach a child right from wrong without physical violence?

reply

So you would have done what the adults did in the show?

reply

Probably not. But it sounds like Michelle did a relatively innocent thing, that I wouldn't be that angry about.

reply

So you wouldn't mind that the entire family didn't get to have any cake because she decided to crawl across the table and shove it into her mouth? You seriously wouldn't do anything? If you had kids they would probably be completely out of control.

reply

Well, I believe that you can stop a four-year-old from doing something without belting her. And if what Michelle did was so bad, why did the adults on the show just laugh it off? Maybe because it wasn't such a big deal after all...

reply

The adults did what they were directed to do, the show wanted us to think it was this cute, adorable moment but in reality no parent with any kind of respect would allow their child to get away with acting like this. Michelle's behavior was selfish, and disgusting and she should have been belted. Also you realize that these adults aren't real don't you? And even if they were 4 random people are not indicators of the objective behavioral standards of children.

"And if what Michelle did was so bad, why did the adults on the show just laugh it off? Maybe because it wasn't such a big deal after all..." Wait are you seriously trying to imply that it's OK for kids to act like this because it was on Full House?

You also never answered my question how would you punish your child if they did this?

reply

We still have 'Fuller House' to shoot for, though unlikely.
