Why was Ray arrested?

I guess because he caused Frankie to kill himself after he shot his girlfriend Sherry. It is supposed to be funny that even though he is watching a video, he gets involved with it. This is almost a precursor to virtual reality.

One thing I noticed after all the years I've been watching this movie is that theres a pile of comic books on the table next to Ray's chair, that pile of comics are Jimmy Olsen comics, Ray is played by Marc McClure then famous for playing Jimmy Olsen in the Superman series of films.
