Her family say she was raped around the time she did this movie and she never recovered. So common in Hollywood, this makes me so sad for her, another victim of Hollywood life. These poor kids get passed around like pieces of meat.
shareIt's very sad. I think that if it happened today, things would be different and Amanda could have made it public and gotten help. If you watch interviews of the young Amanda she was very intelligent for her age and wise beyond her years, not to mention extremely talented. I believe she could have had a long successful career if not for the rape.
The business uses you up and finds new talent daily. Very few survive and make the transition from kid to teen to adult roles. Actors are very disposable these days...there is always going to be someone younger, hotter, and good looking on the horizon.
Yeah it's a shame it was swept under the rug. I liked her work and it showed promise of a bright future.
shareThis was sad. I remember seeing her mugshots after her death, and it made me sad. She was such a beautiful girl. All we see is the fun, movie making, red carpet part of Hollywood; however there is so much more that goes into it that is not good which we only hear about later.

I sometimes wish this former A- list mostly movie actress was still alive. She didn't make a movie the last two decades of her life but everyone still loved her. I think she would have called out that A list actor in the movie that made her famous. She always told those close to her about his assault on her and the constant harassment from the director who wanted her to get as close to naked as possible. She was underage so couldn't get naked on camera, but he pressured her all day every day to take off her clothes and would be rude when she refused and then wrote away some of her part to the actress who was willing to get naked for the director and the movie.

Amanda Peterson from Can't Buy Me Love. She tragically OD'd a few years ago. Hollywood ruined her. Raped as a teenager by an older industry big wig she was being blackmailed and abused and she snapped and turned to drugs. She ran away from Hollywood and never looked back. Went back to her hometown in Colorado but the trauma set off bipolar disorder. That plus drugs led to a really horrible life and eventual death. She was excellent in the mini series a year in the life as well as Can't Buy Me Love. She was also in Annie as one of the orphans and in the Ethan Hawke/River Phoenix movie The Explorers. She was very well spoken in interviews at such a young age. She seemed very wise beyond her years and stable. It's a shame what Hollywood did to her.share

I never liked that Patrick Dempsey. Something about him reeks creep. I feel so sad for Amanda and pray for justice. I hope Hollywood guts all the filth and transforms itself.
