So did Johnny sleep with Mrs. Pressman?

Interesting that they left it kind of ambiguous.

Seems like Mr. Kellerman doesn't mind the staff sleeping with the guests as long as the GUESTS initiate the activity.

I always got the vibe that she was trying to initiate an affair but he wasnt ever interested. I think he treated her as he did because time she was a guest and wife of someone important. It was his job to keep the guest happy but i dont think he had an affair with her.

reply

That's my take as well.

I can't imagine it would be good for business if the guests were sleeping with the staff.

Kind of an interesting attitude from management if that's condoned.

reply

It was more that Kellerman didn't want Johnny and the boys (entertainment staff/poor boys, etc) sleeping with the daughters of his rich guests. Angry fathers are bad for business, etc...hence he didn't mind the college boys (Robbie and company) romancing the daughters because they obviously have money in the bank so are potential marriage material for the daughters of wealthy fathers, etc

But why would Kellerman care about Johnny sleeping with older women whose husbands are too busy and oblivious to see their wives making eyes at the young dance instructor? The same reason nobody cared that Penny and Robbie were an item as they were both employees....but since Robbie was the college boy with the bright future, he (unlike poor Penny) would get off scot free from getting Penny pregnant while Penny would most likely lose her job once it became known..that was the unfortunate prejudice of the time.

As for whether Johnny ever took Mrs Pressman up on her interest, I don't know if he had slept with her before meeting Baby, Johnny did admit to Baby that many older women had used him for sex before in the past and that it was beginning to bother him to be treated as just sex object. Maybe it was just flirting and Mrs. Pressman didn't make her move until that scene in the film when Johnny turned her down....that would explain part of her outrage....as she might have assumed from their previous flirtations with Johnny that he had deliberately led her on, etc.

reply

He should have. She had it going on.

reply

Correct. And Johnny already had her. He was definitely attracted to her. As he told Baby it felt good to be wanted by these women who were well off and took such good care of themselves. But he knew Baby was there and he came to the realization through talking to her that he was just being used and was worth more than that. He wanted to show he had more power and was worth more, so thats what he did.

I'm surprised at the answers.

There's no doubt that Johnny had diddled Mrs. Pressman numerous times prior to the Houseman's arrival (late in the season) as he had with other rich female guests.

Vivian wasn't just disappointed - she was *incredulous* that Johnny turned down Moe's money for private "dance" lessons with Vivian (to keep her out of Moe's hair for his big poker night). I might go as far as to suggest that Moe even knew what Vivian was doing during the week when Mo wasn't at the resort.

This is the correct answer.

reply

Absolutely, no doubt they were 'together'.

reply

I got exactly your same idea.
Including being surprised at the answers before yours.

Mrs. Pressman was one in a long line of “Bungalow Bunnies” Johnny slept with. Johnny didn’t make his summer money solely teaching the pachanga and merengue. He was a gigolo and Kellerman not only knew it but counted on it to draw in wealthy lonely city wives.

reply

I always took it that NO he did not sleep with her.....THIS TIME. I got the vibe that they knew each other and that she had been a guest there before and that in the past they did sleep together. She was expecting to do it again.

reply

Kellerman was all about the waitstaff dicking down the guests, but the entertainment was somehow off limits. Stupid-ass rule.

Also, yes, Johnny was plowing Vivian's patch on the reg.

reply

Didn't she call him 'lover'? That would strongly imply at some point in the past they had sex and she was expecting more of the same.
