Major Coca-Cola Product Placement

Upon watching the BluRay release of Ernest Goes to Camp, I happened to notice tons of Coca-Cola product placement. They must've sponsored the film in a major way.

Just a few noteworthy appearances of Coca-Cola include:

When Ernest picks up the boys at the detention center. When Moose (The runt of the litter) walks out carrying lots of bags, on of them is a red duffel bag he is holding in his mouth bearing the Coca-Cola logo.

When Vargas breaks Ernest's face out of the food tray using a frying pan, Ernest slams up against a Coke vending machine which subsequently falls on top of him.

During the 'Gee, I'm Glad It's Raining' sequence, Vargas is shown removing a picture on the wall near a window. On the windowsill is a Coke can.

As Bronk Stinson, the Foreman for Krader is demolishing the Camp Kikakee office, he knocks over another Coke vending machine outside the office.

Ironically, before the film was made, Ernest was doing commercials for Sprite and Mello Yellow soft drinks! Wonder why they didn't jump on the bandwagon to sponsor the film?

"How can I move when you've stopped the music?"-me.

Sprite and Mellow Yellow are owned by Coca-Cola.

I haven't had or seen Mellow Yellow since the '90s. Are you even sure they still make it? I had always assumed Vault was meant to be its replacement (though I'm hardly a soda enthusiast by any means...).

Interesting. I guess you learn something new everyday.

Funnily enough, this is probably the most activity this board has had in years...

Yeah, I had recently bought the Ernest Triple Feature from Target for $5. It included Ernest Goes To Camp, Ernest Goes To Jail and Ernest Scared Stupid. What a steal and what a trip back through time! Reminds me of more innocent days...

I need to buy the set next time I get a chance. And yes, they still make Mello Yello, it's just in different regions. It's sold mainly in the south, I buy it a lot

reply

yeah Mello Yello is still around and Vault is discontinued, my dad usually gets a case of them a week since he works for COKE.

This is Miami Pal, but lately its starting to look a lot like Disney Land!
