Little subtleties that makes this movie creepy

I absolutely adore this movie. It's the first horror movie I've ever watched as a kid. I know if I'm undecided on what movie to watch i can always turn the gate on because it's a fun, creepy movie that still holds up in my opinion to today. To me this movie embodies all of the things that scare the crap out of you as a kid. The fear of things going absolutely wrong the safety net of your parents absent, hands that reach out from under your bed to try and pull you under, a very dark atmosphere, a monster in the mirror and the closet (the dead workerman), a deep hole in your backyard where you have no idea what lurks beneath. In my opinion what makes this movie very creepy is the dark atmosphere and the weird noises and effects used. If you listen closely to some scenes you can hear very weird guttural noises from the monsters like the scene where the hands come out from under the bed ,the weird noises the workerman makes, the whole you've been bad noise and just throughout the movie the movie soundtrack not the actual physical 80s music but the movie scores themself make the movie that much more creepier just like in the shining the weird backround noises and such.....

I grew up with The Gate where my parents rented it from the movie video rental store or that i saw it a couple of times on HBO back then.

the little demons were pretty scary and they still are.

Plus the giant head boss demon was pretty cool looking

Yeah; I have a vague memory of seeing a poster for this movie at a movie theater, when I couldn't have been more than five or six, at the cinemas. Recall seeing it some years later on TV. Talk about starting to feel old
