I defy anyone to give a reasonable explanation as to why Julia married Larry to begin with. She doesn't seem to have an ounce of love for him. I mean, she screwed Frank on top of her wedding dress! Seriously, either I missed an important character motivation scene, or Clive Barker just decided that his audience is too brain dead to realize the ridiculousness of Julia agreeing to marry Larry.
shareThe answer is she was most likely satisfied with him until Frank came along and opened her up to something more exciting, and then Frank left so getting with him wasn't an option. At that point, it was too late to back out of getting married to Larry and she had no one else. In addition, she could have been marrying him for non-romantic reasons, such as financial stability.
Don't be so quick to assume it's bad writing and think of the possibilities.
Was Frank supposed to be a half brother of Larry? They didn't strike me as very close at all.

As far as I know, they're full brothers. And they aren't close, mostly due to the kind of person Frank is. Frank sees Larry as an impotent wimp while Larry sees Frank as a scumbag.

shareYeah, I don't get why she would hook up with such a square to begin with, they had nothing in common! Larry was a nice guy but just not her type. Maybe a one night stand but not a long term relationship with Larry. It should've been the other way around and maybe Frank wouldn't have messed with the box if he had her, he does say something like that in the novel. Whether he meant that who knows. Hellraiser is pretty much a drama(mixed with horror!) about people making the wrong choices and decisions for their lives. It's like a Shakespearean tragedy.

She likely thought she would become satisfied with Larry but she was too gone by that point and she was bored with Larry. In the scene were she was watching boxing with Larry, he was surprised as she was disgusted by the violence, unbeknownst to him that she was killing men for Frank, people change. It was implied through the flash back that Julia was different before Frank entered the scene, she was a person who wanted Larry. She must have loved him otherwise she would have let Frank kill Larry earlier on.

Larry is the typical emotionally and physically stable Beta male women eventually want to marry and settle down with. Frank represents the dangerous, broody Alpha male they want to *beep* behind their boyfriend/husbands back. Julia represents most of your typical females while Kirsty represents the younger more naive side of the female gender. The entire film is only a play on how Bondage/SM (or sexual deviancy in general really) interrupts those relationships between the four types.
