Underrated

It's not as good as the original 'House', but it has it's share of moments.
'Gramps' pretty much steals the show and makes the film worth watching.

The Slim Razor dude was pretty cool, he should've had more screen time though.

It does seem to have too much humor and little horror, which is probably why the third one, 'The Horror Show' was stripped of all humor.

I agree. House II is one of the most underrated sequels I can think of. If you can get past it being much different than the original, it's a lot of fun. And the score by Harry Manfredini is outstanding.

I agree this movie is underrated, but regarding "too much humor and little horror", this is what makes this movie one of my faves. I suppose if you start watching a series of movies like this, you come to expect certain things, and if they are not provided, you're disappointed. Just look at the first three "Star Wars" vs. the last three. You apparently wanted horror, and I'm not saying this is bad, it is just not what I like.

I'm not a horror fan, but somehow got roped into watching "House II." I was completely surprised by the fact that I loved it, in the same way and for the same reasons I loved "Army of Darkness." Campy, funny, and a sendup of horror films. What was that line? "Bozo the death machine." or something similar. And who wouldn't like John Ratzenberger's character in this movie? Cliff Claven as an Electrician/ Adventurer. Too funny! And you're right, Gramps was great.

I forget which one of this series had the tagline of "Ding-dong, you're dead", but this is precisely the sort of movie that does not appeal to me. After watching "House II", however, I thought I'd missed the point of the series, and watched a couple of the others. While one of them had the same running gag about the cars constantly knocking over something in front of the house, nothing else was the same as "House II." Too much horror, and not enough humor.

So I guess you like horror, and I like horror comedy.

For anyone else reading this post, we're both right. It all comes down to your own taste.

This is along the lines of the 80's weird science / my science project buddy flix, but with a lot more depth. I am laughing at myself for saying that, but it was simply awesome.

A classic... that I believe launched my love of horror films. It wasn't until this that I saw Evil Dead, and not until that where I saw Romero films.

Humour has always been part and parcel to horror... those moments let us breathe a sigh of relief in the mixed up and scary world we inhabit for that hour and a half.

This is a classic... and I am sort of stunned it doesn't get more due.

Wow, I don't get it. I was so bored with this film that I chewed off my left arm and used it to play tug o' war with my dacshund. I was blown away that it scored above a 4 rating. I was guessing 2-3.5 tops!
