Does anyone else remember there being a competition?

Just watched the Blu-ray (which was stunning, by the way) and it sparked a memory...

I seem to remember renting this film on VHS, back when it was first released in video libraries in the UK, and it came with a competition. I can't remember what the prize was, but the competition itself was interesting: basically you had to pitch a story outline for a sequel.

Obviously no sequel was ever made - and I think the competition rules even said there was no guarantee that the winning idea would actually be filmed - but someone out there must have won that competition. It would be interesting to know what kinds of ideas they were pitched.

Does anyone else remember that competition at all? It's possible it was only a UK thing.

There was a competition once upon a time where you could win a promotional T-Shirt. Front was the guy with the liquid from the poster on the front, and the Prince of Darkness poster logo on the pack in a dark green color.

Interesting... Maybe the t-shirts were runner-up prizes in that competition? It's unlikely there were lots of different promos related to that one film.

I recall that, when I rented the film, I was given a colour-printed "flyer" with the competition entry details on it - so it was a professional promo competition, presumably run by the UK distributor: Guild Home Video, 1987.

I never managed to think of anything worth entering, so it's possible I still have the entry-form somewhere - I can't imagine I knowingly threw it out because it always intrigued me. I know I've still got the big-box rental VHS of the film somewhere in storage - the very same copy that I rented - so I probably tucked the flyer away inside the case, to keep them together.

My local video library (back in the day) let you put your name down to buy their tapes when they delisted them, so I ended up owning quite a few of my rental favourites that way :)

I would spit acid to anybody's face for a t-shirt like that. :)
