There's an even better goof I found. Check out the scene where Rick Latimer first meets Jake Phillips in the principal's office. Watch Jake Phillip's black cap during that scene. At one point he takes it off to shake hands with Rick and then the next shot shows the hat back on his head! Then the shot after shows the hat back off his head as Jake is putting it back on his head.

I also think that was said on purpose. It took me by surprise as well but, I think that is supposed to just show that Latimer really has NO clue about anything. ( Doesn't even realize what his school is called..)

Yes, "Brand X" is usually an off-brand, a cheaper version of the "name" brand. It was a play on words because of the nature of the school.
