oakland california

this is one of my favorite movies i still have it on dvd but i have a close relationship to this movie because my brother and many of his freinds where hired as extras my brother was kicking it with the mexican gang you see in the movie many of them where real gang members from east oakland many where from the 38th st gang 36 st gang and 41st gang and where hired straight in the hood to be on this movie my brother was appoched by some casting guy while he was waiting for the 82 ac transit bus on the corner of e14 st and fruitvale ave unfortunatly some of the guys on this movie are now dead one was killed by the oakland police in the mid 90s one died of aids and another died in a drug deal gone wrong in the early 90s another guy that was stealing sandwhiches from a vending machine and is cought by louis gossett jr is my brothers best freind and he doing good also i know a few of the guys in the garage that helped Rick Latimer fix his motorcycle also my uncle rigo was part of the clean up crew he said they cleaned up this place for about 4 mounths even after the filming crew left.....

other then that this movie was filmed mostly in west oakland like on san pablo boulevard and 7th street is also shown in one part also the school brandell it self was in north oakland it was an abandoned merritt college campus and i heard it was once a part of oakland tech high school it's located on martin luther king jr way and 58th st the high speed chase sceen with victor duncan and Rick Latimer on his motorcycle where filmed in east oakland in the allys on e15th st and gleason way and marin way the bar where Rick Latimer went crazy on his ex wife boyfreind was in west alameda on webster street it was called jhonny b goode it's no longer there i think it's a mexican restaurant now but the jack in the box you see in the back ground is still there and also you can see the webster tunnel in alameda in one sceen and the oakland tribune building in another sceen and lake merritt is seen in one part of the film as for brandell the school it self it,s now owned by children hospital and is some sort of senior center the building it self looks great it looks the same as the movie except it's fixed up and painted now ...

well i hope this review helps i was 10 years old when this movie came out and i can still remember going to see it at the oakland coliseum drive inn with my mom and brother like it was yesterday this movie brings back memorys of my childhood in oakland califaz straight up oaktown boy latino from the fruitvale district town buissness .....

Great post, rvr.

Can you believe how many people are saying that it looks like L.A. in the background? What are they, insane? There is nothing remotely L.A. about the backdrop of this movie. Foggy, cloudy skies, old beat up victorians.. It's as east bay as you can get.
