What makes this movie better than rest? Bob Morton

Robocop is an awesome movie, but it's mostly an action film.
People made it and watched it to see a robot kick ass as a cop. Great pitch.
All the sociological commentary is a great bonus, but that too has been done many other times in less impressive movies (although Robocop was one of the first ones).
What lifts it up is the great supporting cast of characters and their stories: every bad guy is different and has something to say; the good guys are also interesting and add a lot to the whole movie.
But above all, we get to see the story of Bob Morton, the creator of this modern frankenstein, and it's a great story to watch: he's a corporate genius with no moral restraints who, albeit able to cash in on the opportinity of a lifetime, is not savvy enough to pay for personal security (nor decent looking whores). Great acting too, gotta love Ferrer's enthusiasm.
I wish he had more screen time with the black co-worker or with Dick Jones.
Anyway, Robocop without Bob Morton is one of the crappy remakes/knock offs that get produced nowaday with the "birth of the hero" storyline, like most superhero movies...yaaaawn...

And he just assumes that when the doorbell rings it has to be the champagne delivery boy.

!!! SPOILERS !!! SPOILERS !!! SPOILERS !!!
The Director's Cut Unrated Version. It makes it more of a shocking and dramatic movie at the way Murphy is killed (also Kinney). It's not just the gore, but the way it's done. For some reason, it lays a more of a black comedy/parody background.
It's shocking the way Boddicker and his men kill Murphy. First, Clarence shot his hand off and you go, "Holy fuck!" The movie is more disturbing and provides a different perspective to the 'R' rated one as his arm and part of his head is blown away. The way director Paul Verhoeven describes the death of Murphy scene as an America Jesus figure as Murphy is crucified with large caliber bullets.
Well worth it to get the unrated Blu-Ray version.
