Getting away from London - to spend time in the country - a little further north than Penrith - but surely looked exactly the same. The car - 2 wipers this time but a ripped top - the music playing - bill the poacher - or is he the f##()cking farmer? The gun - nancy boy hunting - digging potatoes all morning - only thing to eat - until the rabbit - but then - of course - chicken issues!

The walk in the hills - the cinematography on the return drive - drug fiend friend - struggle over buckling down to work - or not; the camera shot up the stairs of someone having broken in - the spade - the leather jacket - the bachelor pad - the kitchen sink - bulls in fields having sex - generational chat over a delicious meal with fine wine - probably plenty of garlic rosemary & salt in that stew

And of course Peter is getting ahead in advertising - or is he - eeps! Weren't Richard and Bruce.....aye me.

Withnail meets Mike Leigh - a la 1971 -

Incredible how well Bruce cast himself with Paul - bloody UNREAL. After seeing Private Road it's hard to imagine anyone else playing Marwood. Yes - of course Benvolio - 1968 - the sands of time were close - but 5 seconds on screen was not enough to get the feel or context of the man. After an hour & a half with Peter Morrissey I am left truly stunned.

Certainly can see what Zeffirelli's saw - you'd be hard pressed not to - no matter what your persuasion. SIGH.

A must see for any Withnail & I fan
