Why did he want him to accompany him to the station?

I felt Marwood always loved Withnail (as a friend) dispite Withnail being a sucky friend, but after their last night at the cottage he started kinda realizing that maybe Withnail isn't worth it. Is that why he was so cold at the very last scene?

Paul Avery: Someone should write a *beep* book, that's for sure.

I think it's because Marwood was intent on moving on with his life, without the booze, the drugs, etc. It's the first step in putting distance between his old life and the life that's to come...success in work, possibly a family to follow, etc. As I said in a previous post, kind of a metaphor for the end of the 60's that the characters allude to several times in the film. Some moved on...some didn't. Withnail, it is assumed, will remain stuck behind in the 60's, while Marwood moves on to a more mannered and secure life.

Exactly right. I'm still with Withnail and I'm 44. Rail against the world uselessly!!!! Those others paper over their pasts, reinvent themselves, turn into pricks and vote liberal (I'm in Aust. by the way. Liberal down hee is diferent to liberal elewhere...). Bastards.

Thanks mate. My life feels like a scene out of Withnail & I often. Still, better than ending up like one of the normals and chatting with pseudo-friends on the weekend over dinner at a dinner party at someones house with a glass of whatever wine is in now about the kids, golf, the career, how gifted the kids are, house renovations, the foreign languages the kids can speak and are learning, football, house prices and what the house might be worth at auction and what the neighbours got for their house and how little blah-blah is going to study something yet to be invented and how much the house has appreciated in the last 12 months and what it may be worth should we sell and the career and how much Jennifer and Ted got for their place just last week and those strange scary naughty muslims and the career and Jennifers affair with Bill who was best friends with Tommy who sold his house for $600,000 and DOUBLED his money and how smart blah-blah is in comparison to every other child that ever lived and how much we want to change the colour of the paint in the hallway. And so on and so forth. I must stop now - do some drugs and drink el-mucho beer. I feel a headache coming on.
