The Canadian Hitchhiker killer

Does anyone remember the case of Philip Innes Fraser? He was a young pre-med student moving from Alaska to Washington. During his journey through Canada he mysteriously disappeared and was found murdered.

The 2nd link is a really interesting article that provides details that weren't mentioned on UM. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Df_7oIrgQAk

Some of the interesting things that weren't mentioned on UM:
Fraser died of multiple gun shot wounds. The mystery hitchhiker had rotting teeth and body odor. Additional details were withheld regarding the crime scene that as yet have not been released to the public.

Does anyone have any theories about the case? Some people online have posited that serial killer Michael McGray was involved but he was apparently in prison serving a 5 year sentence for armed robbery when the murder occurred.

I guess McGray could fit the profile, a mentally ill person who kills without a real motive. I don't think he's a dead ringer for the sketches, though. And as you say, he appears to have been in jail at the time.
