Was this significantly altered in post production? (Spoliers)

There’s so much dubbing, where people are clearly saying something other than what we hear them say. There’s the sub plot with lots of people in town apparently disliking Tom Berenger; I could have a guess at why, but despite being fairly extensively set up the situation is never actually addressed. And after Berenger dies the ending feels weird, it goes on for far too long after the climax yet also feels sort of rushed and disjointed. But I enjoyed the film, I’m not having a go at it, it just seems like it might have been tinkered with after bad previews or something.

There's a lot of things that happen just because the plot needs it to. Like Berenger inviting Winger to hunt down and murder that black guy.

Apparently the director has made some important films. This was good but it felt like a more complex and serious film trapped inside a Hollywood thriller.

Parts of it worked very well but at other times I was like ‘nah!’, like why was her FBI boss/lover such a scumbag? Why would she ‘go back in’ after witnessing the black-hunt? Why does Gary allow her to gun him down when he’s got a loving family? Wouldn't the daughter at the end hate Catherine for killing her dad?
