New UK Region 2 DVD - Uncut version

Optimum Releasing has had the 99.29 min long version approved by the BBFC without cuts. Expected to be released in the not too distant future.

Probably. Don't know if it will be the same master used. BBFC has it at least titled as Salute of the Jugger. What's the quality of the R4 DVD?

We could only hope they use a different master to make this R2UK DVD, if it is coming out. I've e-mailed Optimum about this release but haven't gotten a reply (yet). Personally I take length over quality but if they have a better quality source the better. I have the VHS too and, yes, it is quite dark in places. Don't mind fullscreen if it originally was a matted version in theaters.

The listing on Optimum's website says the Salute of the jugger DVD will be Fullscreen. So far that is the only way I've watched it so not too devastated... ;)

I just watched this movie (I had bought it quite some time ago just haven't had time to sit and watch) very violent, brutal and gory. Back to topic...mine is 91 min long, I have a Reg.1 (i'm in the US), the picture at times is a bit dark (so dark that I could barely make out their faces) the sound quality was inconsistent (at times I had to turn up the volume to hear). I had read that the DVD was not great quality and that the VHS version (sound and picture wise) was better.

Just had a look at amazon.co.uk for the DVD and was annoyed to find that the release date for the Region 1 DVD was January 1st, 2020.

Never getting my hopes up again :(

reply

LOL, never go with release dates given by Amazon they rarely get it right...
As long as they have no set release date they opt to show the a "January 1st, 2020" or something to that effect.
At least they have the forthcoming release from Optimum up there, this wasn't the case earlier so this is a definite plus.
As soon as Optimum has at least a estimated release date Amazon might, and I stress might, update their "Salute of the Jugger" item page.

A better option is to check http://www.optimumreleasing.com/ from time to time

I should point out that although the Amazon page still says All Regions this might eventually be a Region 2 release only on top of it being PAL standard. This is not a NTSC Region 1 formatted release.

reply

Ok, it says all regions. I don't know much about DVD formats...will this work on my DVD player (I'm Canadian)? Or does Amazon just keep it at "All Regions" until it's released?

I just want to get the long version on DVD or on my computer or something. Anybody know if there's a torrent kicking around anywhere?

reply

Amazon pre-release information can not always be trusted so I checked Optimum's homepage instead since they are releasing this DVD. They aren't listing any region at all in the details for this release. However, I would wait and see until after it is released so we can verify what region code it is given. It will most likely have Region 2 only or at most Region 2 & 4.
I'll post it here as I'm buying it.
Mind you, this is PAL format which doesn't suit North American TV sets since you are using NTSC. Should work well on a computer though as long as it doesn't lock you to any other region than 1.

I just checked out Optimum's Highlander Immortal Edition and that one is Region 2 only. We may expect the same with Salute Of The Jugger.

reply

The UK DVD is Region 2 only. You have to play the disc in the computer (with a region killer) to watch this disc.

reply

Does anyone know if the new Region 2 release has better picture quality than the American DVD? I have to say, of the close to 2,000 DVDs I've watched, Blood of Heroes, the American disc, is the worst ever. I've seen the movie about a dozen times on VHS, otherwise I would have missed a lot of dialogue. Not only is the picture so dark in night scenes that you can't see what's going on, the audio is weak.

I'd like to buy the Region 2 from Optimum that's now available, and runs eight minutes longer, but I'm hoping the audio and video are from a better source. Any info?

reply

OK, I'll answer my own question, just for grins.

I just watched the Region 2 release, and while the picture quality isn't that good, it's way better than the American disc. The audio is also much superior.

There's a *lot* of additional footage, most of which really adds to the story (including a different ending). One scene is missing, where the old man is telling a story about a game where a qwik is stunned and runs in the wrong direction.

I'd still like to see a decent remaster, but this is a big improvement over the Region 1 disc.

Most DVD players have multiregion hacks.

That is if his DVD player converts PAL to NTSC.

reply

Yes, if a DVD player doesn't have a PAL/NTSC converter, that will be a problem. But the ones that do will handle the conversion automatically once the multiregion hack is entered. You just have to make sure the settings on the DVD player tell it that the TV is NTSC.

Either way, I'm just saying the fact that it's a Region 2 DVD doesn't in and of itself mean it can't be played anywhere else. The fact that it's also in PAL format means it requires a converter to be played on an NTSC TV, but that's a different issue from the one the poster before me raised.

The OP was referring mainly regarding playing it on the computer so that was what I concentrated my answer to.

reply

Oh, heh, I just now noticed that you're both the original poster and the same poster who wrote the post I was replying to.

Okay, we're all up to speed now. And I understand.

Directors cut, or full version; I would be very interested as well. Let us know when it is out
