Vanity project for Eddie

So Eddie was king of the world and was recognized everywhere by everyone at the time he "wrote" and made this picture. What an ego on him. It's the success of this that sank his career because he felt that now he could do no wrong. This movie was okay but forgettable, and then his ego went straight to "Harlem Nights" and buried him.

Yeah, this is acknowledged as one of his best films AND you are posting in the imdb forum about a "forgettable film".

Maybe Eddie will hire you as one of his "Wipers!"

reply

People say this movie is one of his best, but it isn't. The only decent joke was with the Duke brothers.

He was recognized in America by one person from Zamunda. Quit exaggerating

Harlem Nights was way more of a vanity project than this. This movie is extremely funny and entertaining. Harlem Nights not so much.

This was the beginning of Murphy's downfall. Everyone was tripping over each other to suck his dick during this movie, that they forgot to make it funny.

Watching it now. Humor does not hold up very well. It's like a forgettable SNL film. Dated in a bad way.

I am not a big fan of Eddie, but this is one of my favourite movies for its upbeat mood, good pacing, amusing plot and great timing. Also lots of talent in it.

Murphy went on from this movie, firmly entrenched on the A-list of bankable stars, for nearly a decade.

He made several turds along the way, and yes vanity projects to boot...but can hardly be traced back to this movie, or this point in time.

One of the biggest turds and vanity projects of his career, was Best Defense...I think he did OK after that.

Whose idea was it for the word "Lisp" to have an "S" in it?

reply

He was always poor at picking movie projects. Must be one of the A stars who have made the largest amount of turds. When you look at his list of movies, he didnt really make that many good ones outside the Beverley Hills Cop franchise. Compare to vanDamme, who never was good at all, but kept doing ok films for two decades, at least within his genre.

Cannot disagree with any of that. Harrison Ford he ain't....
