SPOILER! A loose end that kinda bothers me...

So, Akeem ultimately gets to marry the girl he fell in love with and the two get to live happily ever after as per the rule of Hollywood happy endings. But hold on just a minute: Akeem's arranged bride is essentially left hanging; the fact that her father was a high-ranking member of the military would also likely complicate things, possibly even leading to a coup against the monarchy in retaliation for the breached promise. So are we to believe she simply married someone else and was more or less swept under the rug?

I am sure that she and her family were well provided for by the royal family. And her father could have only led a coup if he had people supporting his cause. From what we see throughout the movie, the royal family seems to be viewed well by their people (referring to the guys Akeem met at the baseball game). You can't have a coup without people willing to help you overthrow the government.
