What happened to Ernest's cab customer at the beginning?

When he falls out of the car and Ernest has to pick him up and then carry him out of the car and accidentally drops him on the conveyor belt outside the airport, what happened to him? He seems to be paralyzed. Is he unconscious? Or paralyzed? Or both? Or something else?

He was scared stiff. Ernest's driving was so frightening his muscles locked up in fear.

I think he was dead. When he went flying out of the cab door, the impact killed him.

That part always freaked me out as a kid.

No he definitely wasn't dead, just scared stiff, when Ernest was trying to get him out of the car and kept hitting the guys head on the inside of the taxi. He was making grunting noises and did a similar thing when he went on the luggage belt.
