Can't have Christmas without it

Christmas Vacation is great, Scrooged is hilarious, Miracle on 34th Street is a classic, A Christmas Carol (any version), A Christmas Story, It's A Wonderful Life, White Christmas...they're all great films for the holidays. But it just isn't 100% without Ernest Saves Christmas. 'Nuff said.

The movie that I would call my 100% Christmas movie is 'A Christmas Story' but I have a bunch of movies and specials I have to see during the holidays and 'Ernest Saves christmas' was one of them until 1998/99 when I last saw it and it wasn't really on TV during the holidays at a good time for me.

...but now this year I've seen it and I'm going to try and make it a definite watch every year again. I'm going to buy the DVD if I can find it.

Amazon.com should have it. If not there, try eBay. I know it shouldn't be hard to find.

It is definetly the best to find it on DVD. I can't even remember when it was on TV during christmas. NO stations show it anymore. ABC family doesn't show it(and they have shown every christmas movie known!) AMC doesn't show it, i mean no stations show it at all!

If you want to watch it, the only way you'll see it on TV is getting it on DVD.

I watch this film every year. I know it's not a cinematic masterpiece by any stretch It's kind of hokey, over-the-top, and drenched in 80's cheese. But it's a lot of fun, has a great deal of heart, and the players are wonderful, especially Douglas Seale as Santa Claus. Along with Edwin Gwynn and Allistair Sim, I think he's one of the best casting choices of any Christmas film. He's just the kindest, most loveable soul.

Wish it would show this year.
I figured a new DVD would come soon after the 3-fer of Camp/Scared/Jail was everywhere for $5, but I haven't seen it.

If memory serves, I got my copy on amazon.

The old DVD is easily available and probably cheaply. I was talking about expecting a new edition. I think the old one is barebones and Widescreen, but non-anamorphic. I got tired of waiting, so I asked for it for Christmas. If I don't get it I will buy it afterwards.

This is still a pretty fun movie.

I couldn't agree more with the subject line of this thread. I have a handful of Christmas movies that I make a point of watching every year, but Ernest Saves Christmas has been special even among these for a long time. I think my feelings about this movie come from the combination of the charm of its main characters, its silly/entertaining comedy (which seems so mild/clean by today's standards), its nostalgic value (as my brother and I watched it together as kids for many years), and the fact that you now have to make an effort if you want to watch it (because you certainly won't be bombarded with it on TV throughout December as is the case with so many other Christmas movies.

Every year since 1991, I've been watching the same VHS copy of this movie that we recorded from TV. Long after I updated most of my other movies to DVDs, this one somehow endured on VHS, and I'm actually amazed at how well the tape has held up after all these years. However, for the coming Christmas season, I finally bought a DVD copy, so I'm particularly looking forward to this year's viewings.

This is a classic for me. My sister, mom and dad love it. Other people may look at me strange when I call this classic, but I love it! I have to see it at least once.
