Hey guys,
Just a quick question for all of you about this movie. I actually think this movie is funniest when you see it on TV and all of the cussing is dubbed out. It TOTALLY cracks me up and ends up being even better than the unedited version. Does anyone else agree?
I do recall MR being broadcast on terrestrial tv here in the UK many moons ago. And even though it was shown after the 9pm watershed the tv station still opted for the censored version. which meant there was an awful lot of "motherfunking" and "funking" and "bullspit" going on!
Absolutely crazy but hilarious all the same because clearly that's what gangsters and bounty hunters really say to each other :-S
And I looked & I beheld a pale horse & the name that sat on him was Death & Hell followed with him.

All I know is, I was 18 and working in a theater when that film came out, and not only does it remain one of my all-time top 5 favorites to this day, but me and another kid who was working there then, neither of us previously inclined to use much profanity, spent the better part of the next 3 months cursing our stinking hides off.
"I have had it with these monkey-fighting snakes on this Monday to Friday plane!" Not funny.
"Pardon my French, but you're an idiot!" And, "Pardon my French, but Cameron is so uptight, that if you stuck a lump of coal in his fist, in two weeks, you'd have a diamond." If it's cleaned up for TV, why leave in the words, "Pardon my French"?
"That slug in the ditch!" Michael J. Fox, about James Woods in "The Hard Way." Another fun film that really needs the original words.
The worst, though, was "Four Weddings and a Funeral." I actually thought "Bugger! Bugger!" was better than "F---! F---!" Though "Bastards!" is better than "Buggers!"

I don't mean to say that all movies with profanity in them are funnier when dubbed on TV. Just specific ones, especially this one because Deniro is getting SO worked up and you can tell he's totally cussing his head off, but they put in all these nice, normal words instead. It just makes it all the funnier.
The worst one in Midnight Run was the coach scene when DeNiro says 'well I've got two words for you STFU' and the dubbed version cuts it to 'well I've got two words for you shut up'. You just imagine the editors saying there you go that works - it's two words. But talk about missing the point!

My favorite dubbed line in Midnight Run was from Dennis Farina: "Let me tell you two stupid marteddy fonds something." At least it sounds like "marteddy fonds." I tried googling "marteddy fonds," however, only to find the phrase is gibberish. Can anybody else figure out what Farina is saying in the dubbed version?
