this movie made me cry so bad

by the end of the movie i was a legit mess! was anyone else as moved by this movie?

Dreadhead #?????

I just learned My Belle was French.

reply

I was a mess too, there is so much about this movie that makes me warm inside and touched.

Also, "Belle" is indeed a french word, it means "pretty". If it's "ma belle", it means "my pretty girl".

mhmm, and ya i knew that its French, lol, that's just a quote from Jason Castro who was on American Idol.

Every time I see this movie it just rips me to shreds.

Of course the first time I saw it I was nineteen, working as a projectionist and falling in love with a girl who would later break my heart.

No small coincidence, huh?

As you may imagine, this film is very close to my heart.

quick reply for you 'blackiecarter' - likewise in my life too - was a projectionist back in my younger days in ireland and fell in love with an usherette [nothing ever happened] and have never forgotten those growing up years - cinema paradiso my all time favourite movie [and understandably i have seen many] can never be replaced - just magnificent beyond words - cheers and thank you for your time - seanosutherland@hotmail.com - slainte

Well, I think it was a really good movie, however I wasn't that touched. Anybody??

I was cured alright!

reply

It's extremely touching. And I'm only 19. I think that it would be even more touching when I'm old and I'm looking back at my life. The nostalgia would just kill me! (In an emotional way, of course)

reply

Right. Good movie, but I was neither touched that much. I guess I've seen too many IMDb top 250 films and I've thought these thoughts before too many times to be truly touched.

I don't have words to describe this movie.. It brings me "SAUDADE" (portuguese word to describe: missing something...more and less...but more emotional!) of everything, and i'm only 24 years old.. and yes, I cry everytime i see this movie ;(! SO BEAUTIFULL!!

reply

Big time - I saw this movie when I was around 24 and it really was like a chapter in my life just completely turned. I never experienced this from a movie. It was like showing me what it means to grow up and move through the seasons of life.

When they go through time and play all the kisses and show the flashbacks - yes I was a mess too.

I first saw this in my high school film class and LOVED IT. This very movie is WHY I love film, and wish/hope that I am able to pursue a career in film. Even if it means that I am a projectionist, I want to do SOMETHING. Anything. But yeah, I love it to death. It does me in everytime I watch it. And the score! Oh the score!! I love it!

I've cried in a lot of movies, only the first time I saw seen them, but this one is special, it really gets me every time, I always cry a lot at the closing sequence, it's fabulous, it's filled with passion, and it reminds me that movies are really everlasting, and the score is unbelievable, Thank you Ennio and thank you Tornatore.

Last movie I've seen:

Wages Of Fear (1953). 9/10

reply

Yea this is one of the few movies to make me wipe my eyes.

I end in the bathroom with a box of kleenex most times after watching it.

When Elena looks straight ahead in the car and begins to cry as she explains what really happened that night is when I lose it every time. Toto's mind flashes back to when he put the note of hers on the nail and realizes then that was the exact moment that forever changed his life for the better or worse depending on how one looks at his life.

On one hand the note caused him to go on and create things of beauty for the world to enjoy, on the other hand the misplaced note caused him to lose the only woman in the world he ever loved.

I've just seen it for the first time (I'm in my 20's too... not that I'm sure it matters much... or whatsoever), but oh, what a wonderful film... and it did indeed have me sobbing in an out-loud horrible type way that makes me very glad I was alone when I watched this one. Thankfully I was able to pause it numerous times in order to gather myself enough that I could press play again and actually be able to read the subtitles while watching!!

I think it was the relationship between Toto and Alfredo that got to me the most (and made me cry the most!!) But were I to attempt to touch on everything that I loved about it, I'd be here for a very long time indeed.
