Watched this film yesterday, veteran boarders pls comment *Spoilers*

So I watched this film yesterday, I absolutely LOVED it and after some research here I came to know that originally the film was not as long and I watched the Director's cut, which is often considered inferior.

Now, we got that out of the way, I want to ask why is this so? I'm a sucker for long cinema and this one was just shy of 3hrs and the ending was just beautiful. I am guessing not too many boarders are happy with Alfredo's decision of screwing the young love of Toto and Elena, Toto is a genuinely dissatisfied man as a grown up and clearly never got over Elena in some ways Alfredo scarred him for life which casts this much beloved character in dark light but guys do understand that Alfredo isn't a very educated man himself and he truly loves Toto like his son, he thought the girl would distract Toto from achieving his true destiny thus he acted like an overprotective father who just wanted what was best for Toto. Was it actually the best thing? Is a life of success more important than life than a life full of love, these complex thoughts can't be processed by Alfredo who is a simple man from a small village and wants Toto to be famous and be recognized, and to some extent maybe even live through him.

The revelation angered not only IMDB boarders but Toto himself (Bloody Alfredo!) but the end, a reel put together lovingly by Alfredo for his lil friend Toto of all the footage he wanted to see as a child, Alfredo remembered he hadn't forgotten, Toto smiles and we see his anger melting away, he is in awe of the final gift Alfredo, the man who introduced him to cinema left for him and I shed some manly tears at the end, so all in all I really dug the Director's cut, its perfect why wouldn't anyone want this version instead?

Blitz-ace-8,

Great post. I also prefer the longer version.

Thanks for the support :)
I want to know why a lot of people have put Alfredo on a pedestal, did he do the right thing? I don't think so but was his heart in the right place? was he just looking out for his son figure? YES absolutely YES. Cut Alfredo some slack given his background and education, he probably equated happiness with success which he was denied of himself, and he wanted that for Toto.
