About to see the movie for the first time. Which version?

Hello people.

Yes, I haven't seen it yet. I'm trying to amend that now. But I just have one dilemma: which version do I go after?

I know the Bluray has the 124, Weinstein-approved version but I know that was not the original, director-intended cut. I know the 171min director's cut would be truest to his original intention but... I dunno, I would like to ask you people out there if that is, indeed, the best version of the film.

And I know how important the first viewing of any film is so I just wanted to ensure I don't screw it up for myself.

If more of us valued food and cheer and song above hoarded gold, it would be a merrier world

If you've never watched it before? I recommend the longer directors cut which is almost a different film because it expands so much on the main character's teenage love story line. The only thing I didn't prefer about this new version is some of the added sexuality, but the other additional scenes are simply vital and make the ending of the film that much more emotional and fulfilling.

After 10 days, I'll assume that you've already chosen, but for others (maybe even you), this is the warning. The first version is perfect, and the ending is bittersweet. The long version is all sweet, and for both versions it is in regards to the endings. The famous final scene is still the same, but its interpretation is completely changed for each version.

The short version is about lost love, and how it can be remembered through the movies. The long version is about how lost love can be found again... just like in the movies.

If you watch the short version first, you'll take it for what it is. Then if you watch the long version, you'll understand how its meaning was changed.

If you watch the long version first, you'll take it for what it is, but then on watching the short version, afterwards you'll go WTF.

Watch the short version first, then the long afterwards. You can decide later of which you like. The short version was loved by the masses and for good reason. The long version was for those that love their movies super sweet!

I would disagree totally with that. The long version is actually much darker, not to mention deeper.

I think the short version is much darker and deeper.

**Spoilers**

Somehow, you can find your teenage love again after 30 some years, and discover that she still feels the same. It was all a mistake, and you can rekindle a love affair that you had as a kid now in your fifties. Thats sounds really dark and deep...

Not a movie fantasy at all?
