they kind of rushed it
i think one of the big reasons it did not do well was becaues they rushed it. it was orginal was goona come out in 1987 (a year after part II) there for it means it was rushed. maby if the had givin it some time and if Heather o'Rourke had not died it may have been better or not we will never know
